GOLF
The Windhoek Golf And Country Club has 1300 members representing all levels of Namibian society bound together in friendship and their love of the game. A round of golf at Rossmund is a truly unique experience. On the banks of the ephemeral Swakop River, this is only one of five desert golf courses in the world. Stroll amongst the wild life and enjoy the resident buck and morning duets of the desert strike. Golfing on this 6 068 metre par 72 fully grassed 18-hole golf course with its year round quality fairways and slick greens is enormously rewarding. Many sponsored national and local competitions, as well as large corporate days, are part of the setting. The likes of Dale Hayes, Gary Player and a host of circuit players are well known at Rossmund. There is no official academy as such, but our local junior players are coached by some national players and, by arrangement, a professional coach visits Rossmund on a regular basis. A large floodlighted putting green and an excellent driving range are positioned in front of the lodge. The clubhouse is a spacious building situated on an elevated ridge with a large sun deck and a panoramic view of the course and the 18th green. It boasts a bar / lounge, change room facilities, restaurant and conference room. The latter two are ideally available for functions, weddings and conferences. There is an adequate pro shop in the main clubhouse with most golfing amenities available. The gardens, both on and off the course, are planted with mainly indigenous plants and a few unique, non-indigenous plants which are carefully monitored. The course with surrounds has a large variety of date palms which are staggered along fairways and around greens, all enhancing the spectacular setting. Truly a gem just waiting to be unveiled. No rush, no stress, no crowds.

Mowani is luxury as nature intended

In the heat, dust and stunning landscapes of Damaraland, there is a sanctuary – Mowani Mountain Camp. Dwarfed by massive ochre boulders, the camp is absorbed into the landscape, making it one with our shared history of life in this prehistoric land.

Every soft curve or ragged edge frames the landscape in a different way, as if you are seeing for the first time, every time.

Game drives along ancient dry riverbeds reveal life that in its sparseness reminds us just how special it is. Rare, desert dwelling elephants, springbok, gemsbok and jackal roam these plains, while their images are found etched in the rocks at Twyfelfontein, Namibias first World Heritage Site.
Relax in a sparkling pool, enjoy a sundowner, and pause, breathe in and know that this is luxury as nature intended it.

Secluded amongst the boulders, Mowanis guest rooms are a testament to the surroundings, where a sense of elegance and earthiness prevails. Winner of an architectural eco-design award in Germany, the organic nature of the design is felt through the camp. Colours, textures and comforts envelope you, while the vaulted cathedral like thatched ceilings are Africas way of paying homage to nature.

Climb into an open-air vehicle and experience the rush of Africa. Mowanis local guides share with their guests an intimate knowledge and respect for the land that they have built up over a lifetime. With new insight into local traditions, you will come to fully appreciate the geology, botany and wildlife of the area. Local villagers are welcoming and keen to share their experiences.
* Visits to Twyfelfontein (click to read up more), with its wealth of ancient rock engravings, and the wonders of the Organ Pipes and Petrified Forest are within easy driving distance of Mowani. (approx 2hours in the afternoon)
* Elephant and Dune drives (+/- 4-6 hours in the morning) to explore the area with your knowledgeable guide - searching for the rare desert adapted Elephants
* Nature walks in the areas surrounding the camp to explore the smaller details of the bush up close and personal

Camp Kipwe where the rocks share their secrets

Huddled in the rocks, with sweeping views across the Aba Huab valley, Camp Kipwe is full of surprises, starting when guests first arrive. It appears as if rocks have tumbled down the hill to reveal this gem of a camp.

The setting is one of intimacy and space. An inviting lounge area, where birds fly in to enjoy the water seeping from the rocks, a refreshing swimming pool nestled in the rocks and a scattering of bungalows complete this eco friendly camp. The surrounding space and endless views of Damaraland cannot be contained. They beckon you to explore – enjoy an early morning game drive in search of elusive desert dwelling elephants, hike in the ancient surroundings of the Aba Huab River or travel back in time at Twyfelfontein, Namibias first World Heritage Site.

Organic and understated, the rooms at Camp Kipwe are like extensions of the rocks themselves. Inside the dome shaped space, you feel like entering a secluded cave and becoming one with the landscape. Natural touches – rocks embedded in the floor, animals carved into the wood, mimicking the areas famous engravings – add to the unique sense of place found at Camp Kipwe. Nestled against the boulders, the partially open, outdoor bathrooms provide a bit of whimsy in the bush, while a small deck extends the living space, connecting guests to the riverbed and the views beyond. There are nine rooms at Camp Kipwe and one sprawling, thatched roof suite full of unexpected luxuries, surprising pops of color and spectacular views.

Climb into an open-air vehicle and experience the rush of Africa. Mowani’s local guides share with their guests an intimate knowledge and respect for the land that they have built up over a lifetime.
