Set on the banks of the perennial Klaserie River is one of Kapama’s most secluded and prestigious safari camps named Karula. Karula means "place of peace" in the native tongue, and soon after your arrival you will know exactly why this name is just so perfect for this magnificent luxury safari camp. Peace is but one of the many emotions that will encompass your soul as you look at the serene waterway meandering gently past your doorstep and the age old saying "water is life" will begin to have a whole new meaning for you.

Karula Lounge and Bar

The open plan lounge and bar area, with floor to ceiling glass doors illustrates the perfect balance with elegant light colors. This modern building with its whitewashed wooden structure, skylights and open air bar, creates a cozy feel to the lounge and makes it a day time favorite to enjoy a drink or just sit back and enjoy the sights Karula has to offer. The contemporary yet African feel to the camp will satisfy and exceed the expectations of even the most discerning connoisseurs. The outside wooden deck overlooking the Klaserie river gives you the opportunity to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and magnificent vistas the camp has to offer.

Karula Library & Media Room

A brilliant new addition and multi-purpose room that was built after the floods in January 2012. The library and media room boasts some of the best audio visual equipment but doubles as a library where you can read a good book in a breathtaking environment, or just take in nature’s views through the massive sliding windows. Keep in touch with family and loved ones at one of the two dedicated guest internet stations with WiFi on tap and free of charge. A private, romantic fireplace dinner can also be arranged with the camp personnel, and in a modern romantic setting like this, the answer can only be "Yes".

Karula Superior Suites

There are five Superior suites at Kapama Karula, each enjoying their own exquisitely decorated and generous private space. The suites measures 130 square meters and each have inside and outside showers, his and hers basins, bath, full mini bar fridge, coffee station with coffee machine, safe box, air conditioning, overhead fans, telephones, wall mounted international adapter, WiFi connection, iPod docking station, gas fireplace and any other commodity a seasoned traveler deserves. Two of the Superior suites, measuring 170 square meters are truly breathtaking and purposely built for guests traveling with children. The open plan living room with its own fire place blends perfectly into the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and all the other standard luxuries of the superior suites included. Each suite is complimented with big glass sliding doors to enable unrestricted views over the river and breathtaking nature outside. Both suites have an outside deck with private lap pool and sun loungers. The second bedroom leads from the main living room with an inter-leading door (or the room can be entered by its own separate entrance). This room is also en-suite and apart from the standard luxuries also includes a Flat screen TV with a Wii game console and a Blue Ray player. These suites offer the ultimate luxury to enjoy with your family on Safari.

Karula Suites

Also after the early 2012 floods, 5 new luxury suites were added to the already impressive portfolio of Karula, each suite measuring 85 square meters with inside and outside showers, his and hers basins, bath, full mini bar, coffee station with coffee machine, room safe, air conditioning, overhead fans, telephones, wall mounted international adapter, WiFi connection and iPod docking station. Upholding the best traditions of a luxury safari camp. They are set on stilts high amongst the treetops overlooking a seasonal riverbed.

Reminiscent of a traditional African safari camp, Kapama Buffalo Camp offers a unique and intimate experience in the African bush. It is ideal for discovering big game Africa in true safari tented style without compromising on comfort.

Ten luxury newly build canvas tents, each sleeping two, are set on wooden decks built on stilts over a steep-sided riverbank. Wooden walkways interconnect the rooms, which are all in the upper reaches of tall riverine trees. The river below rarely flows and antelopes are seen daily walking along the sandy riverbed. Each tented room has all the usual comforts of electricity, en-suite bathroom, safe, writing table, wardrobe, low impact climate control, mini-bar and tea/coffee facilities.

The communal areas of Buffalo Camp are on the riverbank, where gardens of succulent aloes and euphorbia are tended around the thatched bar, dining room, pool terrace and campfire. But the thick African bush is just a glance away, inhabited by animals like lion, hyena and jackal whose calls can be heard in the dead of night. Lanterns, rather than electric lights, glow at night under the trees, creating a special intimate ambience particular to Buffalo Camp.

With a maximum of 20 guests at Buffalo Camp, special attention is paid to personal service and the staff become like friends. Kapama Buffalo Camp is a truly authentic way to experience the African bush.

Lounge

Buffalo Camp has a cosy lounge on the edge of the riverbank under a vaulted thatch with ceiling fans to help the air flow. The Buffalo Bar serves drinks all day and into the night until the last guest turns in.
Upholstered chairs and sofas offer a restful place to sit and listen to birds in the surrounding trees.

Dining

The African camp atmosphere is perpetuated at mealtimes with serve-yourself choices presented in heavy African cooking pots over a gentle flame.
Hot and cold breakfast and lunch options are spread out across the servery, while dinner is prepared in the kitchen or cooked on the grill and served around an open fire in the circular traditional outdoor boma.

Buffalo Camp Swimming Pool

Buffalo Camp's pool terrace features a large rim flow pool and cozy sun loungers. This is the best place to cool off and rest under sun umbrellas on a hot African afternoon.

Tents

Kapama Buffalo Camp has ten safari tents, upholding the best traditions of a luxury safari camp. They are set on stilts high amongst the treetops overlooking a seasonal riverbed. The branches of bush willows and leadwood trees crowd towards your balcony, and as you scan the treetops, you might well look straight into the face of a vervet monkey staring right back at you. Raised wooden walkways connect the tented safari rooms and lead to the main lodge on the riverbank.
The wooden-floored tented rooms feature twin beds with white linen and African design bedspreads. Fleecy throws and heated under blankets keep out the cold on winter nights. Like any other luxury bedroom, Buffalo Camp suites have an en-suite bathroom with a large stand alone bath and shower with uninterrupted views of the surrounds. Leather and dark wood finishes give the decor an old African touch.
